Catarina Valdigem holds a PhD in Media and Communications from Goldsmiths, University of London (2016), with the thesis title “Postcolonial Objects of Collective Re-membering among Portuguese Muslims of Indian and Mozambican origins”. She concluded a Master’s in Communication and Cultural Industries (2005) and a Licentiate degree in Social and Cultural Communication (Pre-Bologna), both in the Catholic University of Portugal. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher in the project “Broadcasting in the Portuguese Empire: Nationalism, Colonialism, Identity” led by Dr Nelson Ribeiro, and based in the Research Center in Communication and Culture, within the Faculty of Human Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal, where she also lectures. Previously she taught in the School of Media and Communications of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (2017-2018), and in the media and communications’ department of Goldsmiths (2010 - 2016).  In 2018, she also earned a short-term scholarship to conduct research in the project “The Portuguese Colonial Empire and the Urban Popular Culture” jointly led by Dr Nuno Domingos (ICS, UL) and Dr Elsa Peralta (CEC, UL). Before that, she worked in other research projects where she has predominantly conducted research on reception and memories of reception of various audio and audiovisual texts, articulating gender, cultural, postcolonial, memory, media and migration studies.
