Alexandre Caratão arrived in Nova Lisboa in May 1966 to work at the local radio club, rising up to become chief producer of Rádio Clube do Huambo. Professionally, he was employed by the Treasury. The station’s announcers and directors had included Fernando Curado Ribeiro, Joana Campina, Sebastião Coelho and Paulo Cardoso. Alexandre Caratão carried out a reorganisation of programming and the technical conditions of broadcasting. He developed programmes such as A Grande Roda, Noite de Teatro, Família Anacleto Costa and Banda de Som and he established agreements with several radio clubs (Huíla, Huambo, Benguela and Lobito), forming the coastal-south central radio network of Angola.
