Ana Maria

The magazine O Tripeiro, December 2020 issue, contains an article about the radio girl Ana Maria, artistic name of Maria Luísa Nogueira da Rocha (1925-2010). She started at the age of 16 in Ideal Radio and, two years later, debuted in Emissor Regional Norte (Emissora Nacional), accompanied by the ensemble of Resende Dias. She performed in the Philco programmes, on the first of these stations, on Sunday mornings, always live, and in shows in which Fernando Rocha was announcer.

She recorded her first 78 rpm records in Porto, but it was in Lisbon that she developed her artistic activity. Many of her records were recorded with the ensemble of Shegundo Galarza. A Minha Vida és Tu, recorded in 1968, is one of the most notable records of her career. Others were O Meu Primeiro Amor, Calunga, Menino de Braçanã and Nono Mandamento. A moment of great controversy was when the artist, blind almost from birth, said that A Desfolhada, a song that won the National Song Festival for Simone de Oliveira, was a plagiarism of one of her works. Still in the 1940s, her voice was heard in a radio drama by Paulo Pombo. In the 1960s, she entered the Rainha da Rádio (Queen of Radio) contest, promoted by the magazine Flama.

The work is the result of a synthesis from the volume Caderno de Espinho, a project by Armando Bouçon, Luís Costa, Mário Augusto and Pedro Pinheiro.
