José Maria Pinto Almeida, soundman, worked for Radio Ecclesia and directed the programme Luanda (8:00pm - 9:00pm). The programme lasted more than a decade (1962-1974) and the year was added to the title: Luanda 1962, Luanda 1963 and so on. The theme music was taken from Paul Anka's Put your Head on my Shoulder (1959). The programme gave preference to Anglo-American music and news reports. For example, Luanda 69 broadcast from the United States the launch of the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon. The Luanda programme had a close relationship with Rádio Globo (Brazil), with international broadcasts, especially sports. Many records and cassettes with new music came to the programme through TAP captains and flight attendants. Later, José Maria Pinto Almeida worked at Rádio Clube Português and Rádio Comercial, becoming well-known for shows similar to those of Brazilian radio stations. He was the author of the book ‘50 Years of Radio in Angola’, published by Caleidoscópio (2016).
